Vice President Cheney picks up campaign funds in Hartford
About 280 supporters each paid $1,000 to dine with Vice President Dick Cheney at a fundraising luncheon at the Hartford Hilton. Cheney hit the familiar themes in his speech: tax relief and the economy, education reform, energy and Medicare. But he devoted most of his speech to terrorism and the war in Iraq, laying out an argument in support of pre-emptive military action. After the speech, the audience including Governor John Rowland (R-CT), Congress Chris Shays, lobbyists and business executives agreed with Cheney's emphasis on Iraq. Charles Glazer of Greenwich, who serves on the Republican National Committee, chaired the event that he called a jumpstart for the campaign in Connection.
