Residents pushing for town to clean up Long Brook Park

Many residents who live in Stratford say the garbage in Long Brook Park and and algae in Brewster Pond needs to be cleaned up immediately. They claim the pond's retention basin is so full it overflows and pollutes the water.Councilman Richard Fredette (D-3rd District) claims budget restraints have depleted the public works crews, who are a big part of keeping the pond clean. But Fredette says the town is working on a long-term plan, and will start weeding out the algae and growth that is in the pond but it cannot be done until the first frost. However, that's not something many of the residents want to wait for. For now they say they won't let the issue clear until the pond is clear.
