Pre-storm checklist to help southwestern CT prepare for Hurricane Isabel

Officials at the state and local levels have been preparing for Hurricane Isabel, and so have many residents of southwestern Connecticut. Some helpful tips should allow you to prepare as the storm heads toward the east coast, and you can check out News 12 Connecticut Hurricane Isabel Center for the latest computer models and satellite maps.Residents should own a phone that plugs directly into their phone system as opposed to a wireless phone. With a wireless phone, if your electricity goes out and your phone system is still good, your phone will not work.If you take prescription medication, the storm could require another shopping trip to the pharmacy. And if you get your water from a well, a power outage will cut off your supply. As a precaution, fill the bathtub with water and turn it into your own mini-reservoir.It's also a good idea to stock up on food that doesn't require refrigeration, such as snack bars, canned tuna, fresh fruits and vegetables. One other tip: Make sure you have a working portable radio. If the power goes out, it will be your only way to stay in touch with what's going on outside.
