Stratford may face government changes in November
In November, voters in Stratford will be facing a very important decision. They will be determining whether to change the town's form of government from the leadership of the town manager and council to that of a mayor and council. After an endorsement by part of the town's Charter Revision Commission, the majority of council voted to put the issue on the ballot, asking voters in Stratford to change to a mayor and council form of government.Since the 1920s, Stratford has had a town manager and council, and the prospect of changing to a mayor-led local government is leaving some voters divided and many others undecided. Supporters of a new government say the change would enable the town to have a regular voice within the community, as well as outside. However, opponents say the plan would only be ridding the town of a vibrant form of government.
