Primary election results roll in as polls close in Southwestern Connecticut

The results of the primary elections came in shortly after the polls closed on Tuesday night, with three major races taking place in Southwestern Connecticut.In the race for the Republican nomination for Darien first selectman, incumbent Bob Harrel defeated one of his fellow colleagues, Selectman Joe Warren, by a count of 1,041 to 744. Harrel, who is seeking his fourth term, will go on to face a Democrat and an Independent in November.In the Bridgeport race for mayor, Rick Torres defeated Adrienne Farrar Houel for the Republican nomination. Mayor John Fabrizi has declared himself the winner of the Democratic primary, but official results have not yet been released. Results will be posted as soon as they are released.The two victorious candidates in the Bridgeport race will face off in the general election this coming November, and will be vying for the seat previously held by Joseph Ganim. Ganim resigned from office after being convicted of federal corruption charges and is set to begin serving a nine-year sentence for next Tuesday.
