CT residents remember September 11 at memorial service in Westport
The second anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks will be marked by observances nationwide. An intimate memorial service will take place Thursday in Westport. Governor John Rowland will address local victims' families. The governor will also dedicate the expansion of the Connecticut 9/11 Living Memorial at Sherwood Island State Park. Hundreds of people gathered at the Westport park nearly a year ago to dedicate a seaside memorial for the victims of the terrorist attacks. This year, state officials have generally limited invitations to family members but say the public may attend the service. The expansion of the victims' memorial includes new sandstone-colored, granite blocks. Each block contains the name of one of the 151 Connecticut victims.
