Accident in Derby raises questions about dangerous roadway

A woman is recovering at Yale New Haven Hospital from injuries to the head sustained in a car accident in Derby. The crash happened on Derby Avenue, and many residents say the road is extremely dangerous.

In the past year, there have been four accidents on Derby Avenue, including a fatal crash that killed a 31-year-old mother of two. Concerned residents say cars constantly exceed the speed limit along the roadway. They say they fear for their children's safety, especially in the morning while kids are outside waiting for school buses.

With the new school year about to begin, residents want to see the town of Derby take some action. Derby Avenue is extremely narrow and is cut in half when cars are parked along the road. Speed limit signs are sporadically placed on the road, and many residents want to see stop signs, crosswalks and flashing lights positioned along Derby Avenue.
