Near drownings at Milford beach worry community members

Three Near drownings at Silver Sands Beach in Milford have community members worried. And with nearly 500 people visiting the beach on its busiest days, many wonder if there are the necessary safety and emergency measures in place, especially after recent near drownings. Theresa Phelan of Milford almost lost her son last Tuesday due to the riptides around a sand bar. She says the lifeguards on duty were not paying attention, and that she wonders what the Labor Day holiday will be like without any lifeguards on duty. Matt Fritz, a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), says he feels there is no need for an investigation at this time because all involved are safe.
