Stratford cops make animal cruelty arrest

(08/12/03) STRATFORD - Police have charged a Kentucky man with animal cruelty after 10 dogs were found dead inside his van in Stratford Tuesday. According to Stratford police, 68 dogs that were being delivered to local rescue groups from a humane society in Kentucky were packed inside the van, possibly too tight.

Police say the driver, 65-year-old Joe Truman of Kentucky, has made this trip seven times before. But it's still not clear if he has ever transported 68 dogs at once.

Truman was released on $4,500 bond and no court date has been set.
