Airmen return from duty in Afghanistan

(08/11/03) ORANGE - A celebration was held Monday to welcome home 50 members of the Connecticut Air National Guard stationed in Orange who have returned from their role in "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan.

During a mission to control airspace and provide communications for U.S. forces, the airmen were also able to make calls and send emails to their families. A luxury many of the airmen's families said helped them from worrying too much.

Currently there is no set date for when the remaining 40 airmen from the unit in Orange will return home from Afghanistan. They are reportedly are training the next group that will take over satellite communications and air control there.
