Stamford standoff ends without injury

(08/11/03) STAMFORD - Stamford police were involved in an almost two-hour-long standoff after a man fired a shotgun inside his house on Northhill Street. No one was injured in the incident, but police have taken 40-year-old Scott Russell into custody.

Neighbors tell News 12 Connecticut that Russell was inside the house with his son-in-law and a baby. They say Russell fired a gun in the direction of his son-in-law but wasn't trying to hit him. Around 1 p.m. everyone ran out of the house, leaving Russell behind and called 911but Russell allegedly did not surrender to police until about an hour and a half later.

Russell was taken to Stamford Hospital where he is undergoing a psychological evaluation. Stamford police say once he is done there, he will be brought to the station where he faces charges of reckless endangerment, risk of injury and breach of peace.
