Cancer memorial service in Bridgeport

(08/10/03) BRIDGEPORT - One day after the 16th annual Swim Across the Sound, a memorial service was held in Bridgeport for those who have lost their fight with cancer.

It was a solemn ceremony at Captain's Cove Seaport in Bridgeport Sunday morning as dozens of people come together at the 6th annual Interfaith Memorial Service to remember loved ones who died of cancer.

The names of many of those who died were read aloud, as relatives offered sunflowers in their memory. Sunflowers play a key role in the ceremony because they symbolize light and hope reminding everyone that their loved ones won't be forgotten.

The service is always held the day after Swim Across the Sound, which is a fundraising effort to help those afflicted with cancer.
