CT man swimming to fight cancer
(08/10/03) ROWAYTON - A Connecticut man is swimming the state's coastline to raise money for kids with cancer. Fred Brooke began his swim Saturday in Greenwich near the New York State border and swam 10 miles in his second leg on Sunday when he stopped near Fairfield.
Brooke is swimming to raise money for eight Connecticut children fighting cancer, one child from each of Connecticut's eight counties. The swim will cover more than 100 miles in eight days. At 52, Brooke battles age as well as the elements, but he says just thinking about the eight kids provides all the inspiration he needs.
If all goes well, Brooke will arrive in Stonington by the Rhode Island border on Saturday.
