CT lottery mistake puzzling officials

(08/09/03) NORWALK - Connecticut lottery officials are investigating why two lottery balls didn't fall into the mixing chamber in last night's "Cash 5" drawing.

Lottery officials said the numbers 18 and 27 got stuck in the number chute when the other 33 balls dropped into the chamber.

Officials said they'll honor tickets with the winning combinations of the numbers drawn, which were one-two-nine-24-33. They're also trying to figure out how to make amends to players who had tickets with the numbers 18 and 27.

Lottery officials plan to meet for a security review and to figure out what happened.

When it's all said and done, the state expects to pay out an additional $290,000.
