Orange residents help support firefighters

(08/01/03) ORANGE - The Orange Volunteer Fire Department responds to more than 600 alarms every year, and on Friday, residents helped support their firefighters by raising money at a fun-filled carnival.

Despite the cloudy skies hanging overhead, families from Orange and neighboring towns spent the afternoon having fun and eating delicious food at the annual carnival, all while contributing to a very important cause. Proceeds from the event help to cover the costs of maintaining and purchasing equipment for the Orange volunteer firefighters. A coat, helmet and pair of boots for a single firefighter can cost over $1,500.

The carnival continues until Sunday, and is expected to raise around $100,000.
