Norwalk Wal-Marts ban sale of BB guns

(07/31/03) NORWALK - Hand-held BB and pellet guns will no longer be sold at Wal-Mart stores in Norwalk. This comes after a number of incidents involving property damage and assaults with the potentially dangerous weapons.

Wal-Mart will still carry rifle-type BB guns because they are not as easy to conceal. It will also lock up all ammunition and require buyers to show ID.

The Sports Authority, the other main retailer of the hand-held guns, is also considering taking this step. These are changes Norwalk police are hoping will help decrease the skyrocketing number of crimes involving BB guns they say have been happening in community.
