Body of Norwalk solider flown home
(07/29/03) NORWALK - As the body of the third Connecticut soldier killed in Iraq is brought home Tuesday, family and friends of Private First Class Wilfredo Perez Jr., 24, of Norwalk continue to struggle with their grief.
Perez, along with Sgt. Daniel Methvin of Texas and Spc. Jonathan Barnes of Missouri, died when a grenade was thrown from the window of the hospital they were guarding.
All three were assigned to Headquarters and the Headquarters Company of the Army's 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division based in Forth Hood, Texas.
Governor Rowland (R-CT) ordered all flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff until Perez is buried. No funeral plans have been decided upon yet.
