High-speed police chase in Norwalk
(07/25/03) FAIRFIELD - A Norwalk man is in police custody following a high-speed pursuit early Friday morning. Police said the chase began around 4:30 as a domestic dispute at a Norwalk home.
A woman called 911 saying her boyfriend who she had a restraining order against, was trying to bang down her door. By the time police arrived at the scene, the man reportedly had slit his wrists and sped off in his car, heading towards northbound I-95. State police, Norwalk, Fairfield and Bridgeport police all took part in the pursuit.
Police say the suspect got off the highway around exit 23 in Fairfield and continued toward Black Rock Turnpike, where police spikes in the roadway caused his tire to go flat. However, the man continued driving until police were able to force him off the road and against the wall of the cemetery at Tunxis Hill.
Police say he was taken to a Bridgeport hospital and will face charges.
