Milford sex shop without proper permits

(07/24/03) MILFORD - Just minutes before a new sex shop was to open in Milford Thursday, word came down the Penthouse Boutique did not have the proper permits. The owner says Milford's mayor revoked the store's adult license at the last minute.

But they mayor says the boutique did not apply for its adult license until Wednesday, and it takes 20-30 days to conduct a background check in order to issue that adult license. This means the store cannot sell anything until that license is issued.

The new and controversial adult mega-store also faced dozens of anti-porn protesters. But store employees pointed out their shop is not near a school, residence, playground, or a church, and is in the correct commercially zoned area.

The storeowner says he plans to open within 30 days.
