New playground for Yale-New Haven
(07/23/03) NEW HAVEN - Child psychiatric patients at Yale-New Haven hospital will soon have a new and improved playground thanks to a New Canaan family. Terry and Nancy Brown brought the project to life as a way of thanking the hospital for treating their son, Bobby.
Bobby was only a toddler when doctors at Yale diagnosed him with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, a condition closely related to autism. And when the now 14-year-old wasn't receiving treatments, Bobby got to burn off some serious kid energy on the playground.
Then in February, Terry was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He says the diagnosis made the project more important.
Construction of a new and improved playground should be finished by September 5.
