Gate may be to blame in Darien drowning

(07/23/03) DARIEN - A Darien family is trying to cope with the loss of their toddler. Police say early Wednesday the 2-year-old boy drowned in the family pool. Darien police say just before 11 a.m. Edward Wallace fell into the pool, which is enclosed by a fence.

According to police, a family member found the boy floating face down in the water. When police got to the house, the boy had already been pulled from the pool and a family member had started CPR.

Stamford paramedics and Darien Post 53 emergency unit tried to resuscitate the child. He was transported to Stamford Hospital but did not survive.

Darien police say a faulty gate may have allowed the toddler access inside the pool.
