Church buys porn purveyor's property

(07/22/03) DEVON - A church in Devon has found a rather unique way to rid the community of an adult video store.

Bishop Jay Ramirez of the Kingdom Life Christian Church has spearheaded a crusade over the past 7 years to clean up his neighborhood. In an effort to protect children in the community from what he calls an "immoral influence," Ramirez and church members raised nearly $250,000. The money was used to purchase 116 Bridgeport Avenue where an adult video store called "Video Pleasures" currently stands. The shop is leasing the property, and the church has vowed not to renew the lease when it expires in December. Church members hope that the move will help make the community safer and cleaner, while making residents proud of their environment.

Bishop Ramirez says his efforts won't stop with the video store. He has also asked convenience stores in the area to stop selling porn magazines, and so far, two have agreed to do so.
