Burst main floods Stamford neighborhood

(07/22/03) STAMFORD - A major water main broke in Stamford on Tuesday morning, damaging at least a half dozen homes and one business in the area.

The break occurred at about 6 a.m. in the parking lot of Planet TV and Appliances on High Ridge Road. The Aquarion water company shut off the surging water soon after the break, and later arrived on the scene to assess the damage and pump away some of the water that had flooded the area.

Several homes suffered major water damage, and the owner of Planet TV and Appliances spent most of the day trying to salvage merchandise from their flooded warehouse.

It took the water company about three hours to restore full water pressure to the 40 percent of the city that was affected by the break. Aquarion says it will be a couple days before all the water is cleaned up.

If anyone has any problems related to the water main break, you can contact Aquarion directly. For the number, please call the News 12 Infoline at 354-INFO.
