Shots fired in Shelton bank robbery
(07/19/03) SHELTON - Shots were fired during a bank robbery in Shelton on Saturday. No one was hurt but the suspects are still on the loose. The robbery took place at the Fleet Bank by the intersection of Trap Falls Road and Bridgeport Avenue.
Authorities say at about 11 in morning, three men walked into the bank and fired some shots to draw attention and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money when their robbery was complete.
Authorities say a getaway driver waited outside while the three armed men were inside. Police say the bank robbers took off in a van and drove about a mile down Bridgeport Avenue to a garage by the Hilton. They abandoned their van and took off in a red Honda or Acura sedan.
Police say it was a well thought out plan that showed they knew what they were doing.
Police would not say if there was anything in or on the van such as license plates that could help them identify anyone connected with the case.
