Disabled Bpt. folks face housing scare
(07/18/03) BRIDGEPORT - An outcry for help by Bridgeport residents who say they rely on subsidized housing. They claim they're in jeopardy of losing the roof over their heads. The Bridgeport Towers housing complex located on Yacht Street has 250 apartments.
The majority of residents has disabilities and qualifies for Section 8, which means rather than pay full price for rent they pay 30 percent of their income. But there's a bill in Washington that threatens to cut these housing benefits.
Congressman Chris Shays told News 12 Connecticut he expects Section 8 will be saved. He vowed to do his part to help residents of Connecticut keep the homes they cherish.
