Norwalk tries to collect on old tax bill

(07/16/03) NORWALK - A $133 tax bill has grown to cost a Norwalk woman more than $1,200. The bill has lain dormant for 13 years, and now the city is coming to collect.

Corinne Re said she should not have to pay for the city's mistake. She no longer owns the car, the reason for the tax bill, and said she never received a tax bill in the first place. Re said it is not her fault the city is only catching up with her now.

The city's assistant tax collector, Al Palumbo, said Re is responsible for paying the taxes no matter what.

Norwalk only recently started using a collection agency to track down delinquent accounts. Re said she is not going to pay the bill and plans on speaking with a lawyer.
