Some Greenwich drivers taken for a ride

(07/15/03) GREENWICH - Six drivers who work as independent contractors for Greenwich Taxi Incorporated have filed a lawsuit against the company alleging unfair business practices, theft and extortion. The drivers say for years they had to pay the former dispatcher hundreds of dollars a week to get business.

Some of the drivers say they complained to the company's vice president, but nothing was done until the lawsuit was filed last month. Shortly after, that dispatcher was fired, but now the drivers want to reclaim their money.

Tuesday, the vice president declined to comment pending litigation, and a call to the attorney for Greenwich Taxi, Inc was not returned.
