Testimony begins in Fairfield school suit
(07/14/03) FAIRFIELD - Parents who have filed a lawsuit against the Fairfield Board of Education testified in federal court Monday. They want a redistricting plan that affects fewer students, while the Board of Education is mainly seeking racial balance.
The main complaint by the parents and the reason for the class action law suit is 155 students who will attend the new state of the art McKinley Elementary School this year will have to switch schools next year.
Parents also say that once transferred, students will endure a longer bus ride and they will have to attend an older, possibly less safe school when considering the air quality.
There will be more testimony Tuesday.
