Bridgeport to offer water taxis to Pleasure Beach
Bridgeport will soon be running water taxis to Pleasure Beach.
Officials say the boats will soon begin taking people to the newly reopened beach, which has been inaccessible since a fire damaged the bridge connecting it to the mainland 18 years ago.
Visitors can go to the Bridgeport Ferry Dock on Ferry Access Road to catch the taxis. The ride takes less than 10 minutes from the mainland.
City officials say the water taxis will be free of charge to the public for the time being. They hope to create a major tourist attraction by giving people free access to Pleasure Beach.
Officials say it cost $8 million to turn the beach into a tourist attraction again, with most of the money coming from state and federal grants.
The water taxis will be open to the public beginning on June 28.
