Soccer fans flock to local businesses, bars for World Cup

Soccer fans in southwestern Connecticut flocked to local businesses to get their gear and watch the first game of the World Cup on Thursday.
Over the next month, 32 nations will fight for soccer's most coveted trophy, and local businesses are hoping the event will boost their bottom lines.
Castle Bar and Grill on Summer Street in Stamford put some preparation into hosting the event. Screens were tuned in to watch Brazil take on Croatia. Stores in the area also geared up with jerseys, mascots and flags representing every team.
Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 to win the first game of the tournament. The games continue Friday at noon when Mexico and Cameroon face off.
