Kitten rescued from car engine adopted in Milford

A kitten rescued by firefighters from inside a car has found a new home.

The kitten got trapped inside the engine compartment of a rental car Wednesday night. Firefighters were called after a woman said she heard meowing coming from inside the car.

Christina Cannistraci thanked Lt. Gavin O'Brien and the other firefighters for rescuing the kitten, whom she has named Smokey.

Milford Animal Hospital offered Cannistraci a free checkup for Smokey and found she was in good health. Cannistraci took her home Friday afternoon.
