Wellness expert Lisa Lynn raises melanoma awareness
A well-known health and wellness expert in southwestern Connecticut is teaming up with a Yale surgeon to raise awareness about melanoma.
Lisa Lynn is the owner of a performance training and nutrition business in Norwalk. She is a regular on local and national television, offering exercise and diet advice. A few months ago, the wife, mother and business owner discovered a melanoma.
She says the melanoma was probably the result of years of pursuing a dark tan during her time as a bodybuilder.
"I don't get cancer, I am a fitness expert" said Lynn. "I eat seaweed and drink green tea all day long."
Lynn is now teaming up with melanoma expert and Yale surgeon Dr. Deepak Narayan to write a book and get the word out to as many people as possible that melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers in the U.S. Their message is to protect yourself and your children from the sun, and to stay out of tanning beds.
Dr. Narayan says that a single exposure to a tanning bed can increase your risk of getting melanoma by about 20 percent.
