Murder suspect Timothy Granata, of Orange, appears in court in death of his mother
A man accused of murdering his mother in Orange appeared in court Friday.
Police arrested Timothy Granata, 22, on Thursday shortly after his mother was killed. They say he called 911 and admitted to the murder.
Granata was found near the home he shared with his mother on Wild Rose Drive, where the body of Claudia Granata, 58, was found, according to police.
Police say an autopsy performed Friday determined that the woman's death was caused by blunt impact and sharp force to the head, neck, torso and extremities.
Granata's attorney, Charles Tiernan, says the accused killer has a history of mental health issues.
Officers say it marks the first homicide in Orange in more than 20 years.
