Leaders of Stamford's Yerwood Center hosted a meeting Tuesday to update the community on changes made since the board of directors took over operations earlier this year.

Interim director Fernando Luis Alvarez says their goal is to fix the financial wrongs that piled up at the center over the years. One of the biggest changes made was not accepting cash to pay for its programs. Alvarez says having a record of money coming in is necessary. Years of books still need to be audited.

The center is also fixing 40 violations issued by the state after it decided not to renew the center's license for its after-school program. Violations included missing ceiling tiles and lights.

Alvarez says they hope the after-school program can resume once school starts next month. He also hopes to make the center more inclusive to adults and offer programs on topics like job training.
