GCA Parkour gym in Fairfield is part of growing trend

A Fairfield gym is teaching athletes the growing trend of parkour.

Instructors Joe Cannato and Merphy Betancourt started the GCA Parkour gym in Fairfield, where they teach the art of climbing, jumping and balancing.

Parkour's popularity began on the streets, but the space in Fairfield was designed for athletes to practice without getting injured. Cannato and Betancourt say they have also seen a growing number of people signing up for classes at the gym thanks to the NBC show "American Ninja Warrior." The instructors themselves have both qualified to be contestants on the show.

The gym will be hosting a special "American Ninja Warrior" event next weekend.
