Teen, man charged in Stamford crashes

Stamford police say a teen is facing charges for taking a joyride in his family's car and crashing into a pole.
They say the 14-year-old struck a telephone pole and snapped it in half at Hope Street and Plymouth Road at around midnight Thursday.
Power lines were down in the roadway as a result, so the road had to be closed.
Just a few hours later, an officer directing traffic at the accident was hit by an alleged drunken driver. Police say 28-year-old Edward Salazar-Martinez failed field sobriety tests.
He is charged with striking an officer with a motor vehicle.
The sergeant was treated for a minor injury to his leg and later released from the hospital.
