Man charged in Bridgeport kidnapping
A man is accused of sexually assaulting, abducting and trying to kill his ex-girlfriend.
Police say they responded to the victim's Bridgeport home at around 8:30 a.m. Monday, after neighbors heard the victim's roommate screaming for help.
Nelson Rivera, 49, allegedly used rope to tie the roommate's bedroom door to a sink to prevent her from leaving as he assaulted his ex-girlfriend. He then allegedly took the victim to his house and attacked her again.
Investigators say they found the victim's purse inside Rivera's car, which was located at a home on Chopsey Hill Road. When officers breached the house, they say the victim was found and Rivera surrendered to them.
Police Capt. A.J. Perez says the victim was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center and is expected to be OK.
Rivera is facing charges of attempted murder, burglary and kidnapping.
