What’s Ailing You: Hair LossPosted: Updated:
This week's "What's Ailing You" report looks at the common issue of hair loss.
The Norwalk man who inspired the report had one specific question: Is there a cure for baldness?
"It's a genetic phenomenon," says Dr. Jason McBean, of Fairfield Dermatology. "We're working on cures and working on treatments, but we're not there yet."
McBean says transplanting hair from the back of the head to the front is a popular treatment at Fairfield Dermatology, and that the latest robotic technology allows individual hairs to be transplanted with no scarring. McBean also says some people with male or female pattern baldness benefit from Propecia treatment.
McBean suggests a future cure may have to do with DNA since balding is due to genetics.
