Sacred Heart professor aims to restore eroding shorelines

With Earth Day coming up this weekend, Sacred Heart University professors are getting a jump on things by trying to make their own positive environmental impact.
Biology professor Jennifer Mattei is leading a group trying to tackle the issue of erosion on the shoreline at Stratford Point. She has studied the area for the last 15 years.
Mattei says the shoreline there has been eroding for over 10 years, and the damage has become a serious issue. The group will be laying down salt marsh grass in an effort to restore it.
Erosion occurs from storms slowly picking away at the shoreline, which destroys habitats for various species.
The planting began Friday morning, and will continue throughout the spring.
