New Veterans Affairs facility to be built in West Haven

A new home away from home for families of veterans was dedicated Tuesday in West Haven.

The Fisher House will serve as a place for families to stay while their loved ones are receiving medical care.

Officials say it will be the first of its kind in the state. The money to build it was raised through private donations.

The 16-suite facility will serve thousands of families at no cost to them.

The VA says it will cost $6 million to build the Fisher House, and it should be open by next year.
