Bridgeport 14-month-old found dead in crib

A Bridgeport family is grieving after their baby girl was found unresponsive and later declared dead.

The 14-month-old was discovered in her crib at the Pleasantview Apartments on Sylvan Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Friday.

Family members immediately called emergency services, and the girl was rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center. A short time after arriving at the hospital, doctors declared the baby dead.

Police say state medical examiners will work to determine the cause of death, which may take several days.

Family members spoke to News 12 Connecticut and asked for space and time to grieve.

Police say a re-enactment of the incident was carried out with help from investigators and the family members who were present at the time.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
