Weekend road closures planned in downtown Stamford

There is a planned road closure this weekend in the heart of downtown Stamford.

The southbound side of Washington Boulevard from Main Street to Tresser Boulevard will be shut down starting Friday night due to construction at the government center.

The city says crews are going to need a very large crane to replace a cooling tower on the roof.

Planned detours will include access to the government center garage at Tresser Boulevard.

Areas affected will be Main Street and Washington Boulevard with detours to Atlantic Avenue and Clinton Avenue.

Police say there will be officers assisting in the area.

They advise residents to plan accordingly before leaving home.

The road closure will begin at 7 p.m. and run until 5 a.m. Monday.
