Officials ID man killed in Norwalk house fire

Police say the man who died in a Norwalk house fire on Saturday has been identified.

Officials have identified the man as 67-year-old Fred Bassler.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire on West Rocks Road.

They say the fire was difficult to put out because of hoarding conditions like trash piles and narrow walkways.

Fire officials have described stacks of garbage three feet high in every room and almost no space to move. They say hoarding conditions create a real danger for first responders.

News 12 is told this is the second fatal fire in Norwalk where crews encountered hoarding conditions in just the past month and a half.
