Man killed in 3-alarm Norwalk house fire

A man was killed in a three-alarm fire that tore through his Norwalk home.

The flames broke out on West Rocks Road. Responders say the fire gutted the first and second floors and the attic of the home.

Fighting the fire was a challenge because officials say it was a hoarding situation, with stacks of junk several feet high inside the home. Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Stephen Shay says there was no room to move around inside the home.

"I almost got guys lost in there because you get disoriented and stuff falls on you," Shay says.

A neighbor says the homeowner had spent most of his time outside, even in the cold weather.

"I don't think there much room for a person inside," the neighbor says.

The homeonwer was pulled out of the home and taken to Norwalk Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. His identity hasn't been released.

A fire marshal was stationed at the scene to monitor the fire for any flare-ups.
