Children in Fairfield compete in annual Trout Derby

Fairfield residents gathered at Gould Manor Park for the 57th annual Trout Derby Saturday.

The event, sponsored by the Police Athletic League in Fairfield, is a free and friendly competition where children try to catch as many trout fish as they can.

Organizers of the event say about 75 kids showed up and officers tell News 12 they put about 400 fish in the pond.

Organizers don't expect all of the fish to be caught today, but are allowing participants to come back over the next few days to try and catch them.

The event is open to anyone 16 and under.
