Bullet shatters window of Bridgeport woman’s apartment

A senior citizen from Bridgeport says a bullet pierced her apartment and came close to hitting her.

Carmen Colon told News 12 she was horrified when she discovered a bullet hole that had shattered her window and landed near where she was sleeping earlier this week.

She has lived in Marina Village for more than 30 years. In all that time, she has never felt afraid inside of her own home until now.

Colon says she immediately reported the incident to the police. Officials told her they would be stepping up patrols around Marine Village.

In a show of solidarity, community activist Jorge Cruz brought some of Colon's neighbors together who have also had bullets land in their apartments.

"They can't live in peace because they have to worry about being shot in their own homes and nobody's really standing up for them, and it's a shame," Cruz says.

Police are now looking for surveillance video that will hopefully show them who fired the shot.

Police Chief AJ Perez told News 12 that he is investigating the case and will be working with the city's housing authority to make the area safer.
