UConn women defeated by Mississippi State in national semis

It's been two years and almost five months since these words have last been uttered: the University of Connecticut women's basketball team has lost.

The undefeated UConn women's basketball season came to end Friday night after a 66-64 loss to Mississippi State.

Mississippi State lead the Huskies by 16 points at halftime, but UConn got back into the game in the second half.

The game went into overtime where Mississippi State hit a buzzer beater to move on to the national championship game.

Despite the loss, the team says they are still proud of the way the team played.

"It's been quite a fun ride," says player, Kia Nurse. "It's been a challenge and I think we handled it pretty well. It's something we haven't been in; rolls we haven't been in. And unfortunately it came short."

The Huskies' loss brings an end to the team's 111-game winning streak.
