Stratford man gets 7 months in prison for deadly crash

A Stratford man charged in a deadly car crash in Bridgeport was sentenced Friday to seven months in prison.

Jerry Goncalves, 26, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in January.

He was arrested in June and charged with hitting Sandra Vilsaint as she was crossing Barnum Avenue near the intersection with Elizabeth Street.

Officials say Goncalves sped up at the intersection as the light was changing and ran a red light.

Vilsaint spent a few days in the hospital before succumbing to her injuries.
