Armed suspect shot in face by officer in Bridgeport

An attempted robbery suspect was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot by police in Bridgeport.

According to Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Woodmont Avenue and Peet Street.

Perez says an officer investigating the area encountered two armed men wearing masks. He says that when he asked them to drop their weapons, one did not.

The officer then shot that suspect, who was hit in the face, News 12 is told.

The victim was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The other suspect was taken into custody and will be turned over to the juvenile detention center.

Both suspects have been charged with attempted robbery and weapons offenses.

Police have not yet identified the man who was shot.

The officer was not hurt. News 12 was told he is a five-year veteran of the Bridgeport Police Department.
