Fundraiser held for Stratford man after car accident

A community came together Wednesday to help the family of a Stratford man severely injured by a fallen tree.

The accident happened earlier this month on the Wilbur Cross Parkway.

Friends of Chris Scofield, 42, say his family has been through so much in recent years.

Scofield was headed southbound on the Wilbur Cross Parkway near exit 58 when a tree came down on his company's plumbing van. He was in the passenger seat, and suffered a broken leg, cracked ribs, and a partially collapsed lung among other injuries.

Before the accident, Scofield battled cancer, but has been cancer-free since the summer.

He now needs several weeks of physical therapy to get back on his feet, and get back to work.

Scofield's friends say he's usually the one giving back to the community, but now it's time for him to be on the receiving end.

The fundraiser was held at La Famiglia Vincenzo in Milford. Bartender tips were expected to go directly to the family.
